OnMiles is a mileage tracking app for iPhone and Android developed by Oyster Enterprise LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses, why it is needed, what is stored on your device, and what OnMiles does not collect. It applies to both versions unless a section says otherwise.
Summary
OnMiles is designed as a local-first mileage and business expense log. It uses location to record trips, stops, routes and mileage reports, and it keeps the income, expenses, receipts and statements you add so it can estimate taxes and build reports. There is no OnMiles account, and your trips, places and finances never go to an OnMiles server: they stay on your device unless you export or share them, or your device's own backup saves them. The only data OnMiles sends to its server is the small set of anonymous usage and security data described below.
Information OnMiles Uses
Location Data
OnMiles uses precise location data to detect trips, calculate distance, show your route, record start and stop locations and addresses, and generate mileage reports. If you allow location access all the time (iPhone: Always; Android: Allow all the time) and keep Background Tracking on, OnMiles can detect a drive and record a trip while the app is not open or the screen is off.
Motion and Fitness Data (iPhone only)
On iPhone, OnMiles may use iOS motion activity information to help detect driving and reduce unnecessary GPS use while you are not driving. Motion data is used only for mileage tracking. The Android version does not use physical activity data.
Trip and Stop Records
The app stores trip start and end times, distance, duration, trip type (Work or Personal), route points, stops, speed metrics, parking and tolls, and optional purpose notes. This information is used to show trip history and generate reports.
Smart Trips
Smart Trips learns the places you visit often and the names you give them (for example Home, Office or a client) to classify trips and suggest purposes. This learning happens on your device, and the places are stored only on your device.
Income, Expenses and Tax Estimates
If you use Taxes & Expenses, OnMiles stores the income and expense entries you add or import (date, amount, payer or merchant, category and notes), your tax settings (such as filing status and tax bracket), vehicle cost figures and reminder preferences. It uses them to show estimated taxes, quarterly payments and reports. These are planning estimates, not tax advice.
Receipts
When you scan a receipt, the photo is read on your device to find the total, date and merchant. OnMiles saves only the resulting entry, not the photo. OnMiles uses the system camera or photo picker and does not access your photo library in the background.
Bank and Card Statements
You can import statement files you download from your bank or card issuer (PDF, CSV, OFX or QFX). OnMiles reads them on your device and saves only the transactions you choose to keep. OnMiles never asks for your bank login or password and does not connect to your bank.
Driver and Vehicle Information
If you enter driver or vehicle details, OnMiles stores them locally so they can appear in reports. This may include name, company, role, email, vehicle make/model/year, and license plate.
App Settings
OnMiles stores app preferences such as distance unit, GPS accuracy, background tracking, notification choices, default driver/vehicle, and mileage rate.
Purchase Verification
OnMiles confirms that each copy was obtained from the official store. On iPhone, it uses Apple's StoreKit, and the App Store-signed information is checked on your device and not sent to us. On Android, it uses Google Play's Play Integrity API: the app sends a Google-issued integrity token to the OnMiles API, which asks Google to check it and returns the result. The token isn't stored.
Anonymous Usage and Security Data
OnMiles sends a small amount of anonymous data to the OnMiles API, operated by Oyster Enterprise LLC on Vercel: a random installation ID created by the app (not your advertising ID or device ID), the app and operating-system versions, when the app is opened, and the result of the purchase verification. Our server derives your country and state or region from the connection and does not store your IP address. This data never includes your location, trips, places, income, expenses or receipts. It is used to count installations and active devices, to see which versions are in use, and to prevent unauthorized copies. It is not used for advertising or to track you across apps or websites. Events are kept for up to 13 months, and installations with no activity for 24 months are deleted. To ask for the data linked to your installation ID to be deleted, email us.
What OnMiles Does Not Collect
- OnMiles does not sell your data.
- OnMiles does not show ads or use your data for advertising.
- OnMiles does not track you across other apps or websites.
- OnMiles does not upload your trips, places or financial data to an OnMiles server.
- OnMiles does not collect your precise location for analytics; country and region come from the connection, not from GPS.
- OnMiles does not require an account.
Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored in the app's local database on your device. If you delete the app, clear trip history, or delete individual trips or entries, those records are removed from the device.
Device Backups
Your device's own backup may include OnMiles data. On iPhone, trips can be included in your iCloud or computer backup. On Android, if Android backup is on, your mileage log (trips, stops, places, driver and vehicle) is saved to your Google account's backup, end-to-end encrypted, and restored when you reinstall OnMiles. These backups are handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies; OnMiles has no access to them.
Maps and Service Providers
To display maps and turn locations into addresses, the app uses the platform's map and location services (Apple Maps and Apple location services on iPhone; Google Maps and Google Play services on Android). These providers receive the map area or location needed to answer the request, under their own privacy policies. Text recognition for receipts and statements runs on your device.
Sharing and Exporting
OnMiles can generate PDF and CSV reports and a tax package. When you export, print, save, email, or otherwise share them, the data included is handled by the destination you choose, such as Files, Google Drive, Mail, Messages, or another app.
Background Location
Background location is used only to provide automatic mileage tracking. iPhone may display a location indicator, and Android shows a notification while OnMiles checks for a drive or records a trip. You can turn off Background Tracking in OnMiles or change location permission in your device settings at any time.
Your Choices
- You can change Location permission and Precise Location in your device settings.
- On iPhone, you can allow or deny Motion & Fitness permission.
- You can turn Background Tracking and notifications on or off.
- You can delete individual trips, entries, or clear trip history in the app.
- You can turn device backup on or off in your device settings.
Children's Privacy
OnMiles is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date above will be updated when the policy changes.
